Valerian, St. John’s Wort and Chamomile in LipiGesic™ PM, have each been clinically demonstrated to promote healthy sleep. Valerian has been used for centuries in the traditional medicine of many cultures as a mild sedative and tranquilizer, and to induce sleep. The last decade has seen a sustained and increasing interest in Valerian, St. John's Wort, and Chamomile as remedies for insomnia. Several clinical trials have been published which strongly support the use of valerian as a natural sleep aid. One study concluded, “Valerian demonstrated positive effects on sleep structure and sleep perception of insomnia patients, and can therefore be recommended for the treatment of patients with mild psychophysiological insomnia.” Another study comparing valerian root with placebo found “good and significant effect on poor sleep”. In that study 44% of those using valerian reported “perfect sleep” while 89% overall reported improved sleep. No other OTC sleep aid can lay claim to anything near this performance. Several studies found valerian to compare favorably with benzodiazepines. Then why are Valerian, St. John’s Wort and Chamomile not in more widespread use for insomnia? The primary reason must be that most consumers do not know about them and do not have ready access to them. They have never been effectively marketed or distributed. No one has brought them to the consumer, at least not to the places where consumers typically shop. Another reason may be that these products have a delayed onset of action when taken in tablet form. Most people who suffer with occasional insomnia want a product they take only as needed – –— not daily. They want a product that works fast –— in minutes, not days or weeks. Use of valerian tablets in one study, though effective, showed only very modest results in the first week, with most of the improvement noted in weeks three and four. Valerian contains valerenic acid, a sesquiterpene shown to inhibit neurotransmitter (GABA) breakdown (thus increasing GABA concentrations) in the brain. This action may be similar to that of the leading prescription sleep aids, Ambien and Sonata, which act by binding GABA receptors (mimicking higher GABA concentrations). Valerian also directly interacts with the amygdaloid body, a small portion of the brain that acts as an “alarm system”. LipiGesic™ PM is a unique and proprietary Valerian, St. John's Wort and Chamomile product available only from PuraMed BioScience, Inc. It is manufactured according to the highest standards to ensure product quality and consistency. Unlike tablets, LipiGesic™ PM utilizes sublingual absorption, which is very rapid and efficient, and ensures that the active ingredient is not broken down before reaching its target. The effectiveness of LipiGesic™ PM is further enhanced by the use of a formulation designed to further speed absorption and increase the amount of active ingredient absorbed. The result for most users is rapid, natural sleep in minutes, not days or even hours. There have been no reported side effects with the use of LipiGesic™ PM, and no reported drug interactions. |
